Perkins Choir Project to record cd in Columbia City Theater Studio.

Music Teacher Alice Sandahl has been working with the second through fifth grades for several months on a project called “The Perkins Choir Project.”  Working with other musicians, Alice has adapted six Seattle “Indie” rock songs to be sung by a choir.  Songs by Seattle rock notables such as Grand Hallway, Damien Jurado, and The Long Winters are some of the artists covered by the choir.  The choir will be previewing some of their songs at our Spring Music Showcase on Thursday, May 26.  On May 20th, the choir is going down to a professional studio in south Seattle to record the songs.  The recordings will be pressed onto cd’s.  The cd’s will be designed and sold by the choir.  All profits will go to fund new instruments and opportunities for our music program.  To preorder a cd or preview early versions of the choir songs go to http://perkinsschool.bandcamp.com

Native Plant Salvage

Help Salvage Native Plants for Perkins!

We need your help!  In an effort to create a school wildlife  habitat, Perkins is participating  in our second annual native plant salvage. At this event, volunteers dig up native plants for the county and then take as many as they want for themselves.  As you may have noticed, we are   creating a new native garden in front of the school.  We would like to salvage numerous native plants at this dig and instantly create a lush native garden and greatly increase the plantings in our existing garden.  It’s a great opportunity to help out Perkins, build a better school habitat, deepen school community ties, and get our hands dirty! If you have any questions please contact Mr. Deese. We hope to see you there – especially if you have a truck!  Thank you!

When: Saturday, November 6, 2010 9 am – 12 pm:  Salvage in Black Diamond.

Directions: From I-405 near Renton, take Highway 169 past Black Diamond. Turn right on SE Green Vally Rd. Go approximately 1.5 miles and watch for a sign on your right. Turn into site on gravel road.

Notes: A parent or guardian must accompany volunteers under 16 years old. Dress for the weather and be prepared to get dirty. Sturdy shoes or boots are recommended. King County will provide gloves, tools and light refreshments.
